01/03/2014 - 2013 ASSOCIATED PRESS FCS SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: RB Timothy Flanders, Sam Houston State, Sr.,...Flanders rushed for 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns during the 2013 season, his third year in a row to gain more than 1,000 yards on the ground. He helped lead Sam Houston to a 9-5 record and the Bearkats' third consecutive NCAA Division I Football Championships playoff berth. The Kats are one of only three programs in the country to earn FCS playoff berths each of the past three years. 12/01/2013 - Timothy Flanders rushed for 152 yards and two fourth quarter touchdowns as Sam Houston St defeated Southern Utah 51-20 in the first round of the FCS playoffs. The Bearkats will face SE Louisiana (10-2) in the second round. Southern Utah (8-5) jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter after a field goal and Aaron Cantu's 28-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Norris.

Sam Houston (9-4) countered with 30 unanswered points, including touchdown passes from Brian Bell to Chance Nelson (32 yards) and Ragan Henderson (7 yards). Bell added a 1-yard scoring plunge. The Thunderbirds cut the lead to 10 with another field goal and Robert Torgerson's 39-yard fumble recovery for a TD. But the Bearkats took control with Flanders' 2-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth. He added a 1-yard dive later in the frame. 10/01/2013 - SEPT 30 SPORTS NETWORK FCS CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Timothy Flanders, Sam Houston State, RB, Sr., 5-9, 210, Midwest City, Okla.,...Flanders took advantage of the biggest non-conference matchup of the season against the Big Sky's Eastern Washington and made the most of it. The Bearkats' running game dominated in a 49-34 win against Eastern Washington, and Flanders was the spark. He rushed for 280 yards and two touchdowns (including a 60- yarder) as the Bearkats proved last year's national semifinal victory over EWU was no fluke. Flanders became the first Southland Conference player and 22nd in FCS history to eclipse 5,000 rushing yards in a collegiate career. 10/01/2013 - SEPT 30 SOUTHLAND OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Timothy Flanders, Sam Houston State,...Flanders ran the ball 32 times for 280 yards and two touchdowns as No. 4/4 Sam Houston State extended its home win streak to a Division I-best 18 games with the upset Eastern Washington. The senior from Midwest City, Okla. (Midwest City H.S.), became the first Southland player and the 22nd player in FCS history to rush for 5,000 career yards. The rushing total, which included 82 yards on 13 carries in the fourth quarter, was the 29th time in his career that he reached 100 yards and the third time he has topped 200 yards.

Flanders has exactly 5,000 career yards. He scored on runs of 60 and 12 yards and played in the fourth quarter for the first time this year. His 61 career rushing touchdowns, which includes nine this season, rank 12th all-time in the FCS. 09/30/2013 - It's all so familiar. The Sports Network FCS Top 25 returned on Monday to the way it finished in each of the past two seasons - with North Dakota State at No. 1 and Sam Houston State at No. 2. They played each other in the 2011 and 2012 FCS national championship games, with North Dakota State winning both times. Here the two dance partners are in the same order again, with North Dakota State remaining atop the poll as it has been since the preseason and Sam Houston State moving up two spots to No. 2.

It was a result of the two teams winning the most anticipated games of this past weekend's schedule. North Dakota State handled then-No. 6 South Dakota State, 20-0, and Sam Houston State raced past then-No. 2 Eastern Washington, 49-34. The top-ranked Bison (4-0) received all but one of the 158 first-place votes and 3,949 points. The Bearkats (4-1), whose only loss is to Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M, gained the other first-place vote and had 3,673 points, jumping over No. 3 Towson to gain the second spot. 09/29/2013 - SEPT 30 COLLEGE FOOTBALL PERFORMANCE AWARDS FCS NATIONAL OFFENSIVE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Timothy Flanders (Sam Houston State)...The Walter Payton Award candidate carried 32 times for 280 yards including touchdown runs of 60 and 12 yards in the win for the Kats. With those figures, Flanders became the first Southland Conference running back to rush for 5,000 career yards. The 280 yards Saturday marked the 29th time the Midwest City, Okla., product has rushed for 100 or more yards in a game. The total ranks as his second highest single game total ever.

Flanders, who leads both the FCS and Southland Conference in total rushing yards with 766 in five games (153.2 per contest), saw his first fourth quarter action of the year. In each of the first four games for 4-1 Sam Houston State, Flanders saw his backups taking over during the final period. With the game still in doubt, Flanders rushed 13 times for 82 yards in the fourth period alone. He picked up four first downs and a crucial touchdown as the Bearkats milked the clock to clinch the victory. Flanders now ranks No. 12 all-time in FCS career rushing touchdowns. 09/28/2013 - Timothy Flanders rushed for 280 yards and two touchdowns, reaching 5,000 yards for his career, to lead Sam Houston State to a 49-34 win over Eastern Washington on Saturday. The only thing that slowed Flanders was a rainstorm that delayed the start of the showdown between two top five FBC teams for more than an hour. The teams combined for 1,052 yards after piling up 1,026 last year when Sam Houston (4-1) beat the Eagles (2-2) 45-42 in the FBC semifinals.

Sam Houston had 450 yards on the ground, with Richard Sincere adding 98, including a 51-yard score on the third play of the game. Brian Bell threw for two touchdowns to Torrance Williams and ran for a third. Vernon Adams threw for 355 yards and touchdowns covering 33, 59 and 62 yards for Eastern Washington. 09/21/2013 - Brian Bell threw four touchdowns and added another on the ground as Sam Houston State dominated Incarnate Word 52-21 Saturday night. Bell completed 19 of 25 passes for 285 yards as the Bearkats (3-1) piled up 566 yards of total offense. He added 35 yards rushing on 7 carries. Incarnate Word (2-2) took a 14-10 lead with 13:59 remaining in the first half when Johnny Sessions scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, but Sam Houston rattled off 35 unanswered points, including touchdown runs of 7 and 41-yards by Timothy Flanders, to pull away for good.

Flanders, who finished with 157 yards rushing on just 15 carries, became the all-time leading rusher in Southland Conference history. He has now rushed for 4,720 career yards, surpassing Claude Mathis of Southwest Texas, who ran for 4,694 yards from 1994-97. 09/15/2013 - Timothy Flanders ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns as Sam Houston State ran away from visiting Texas Southern 55-17 Saturday. The Bearkats (2-1) pulled ahead in the second quarter, taking advantage of three recovered fumbles and scoring on their final four possessions of the half. Both of Flanders' scores followed Texas Southern turnovers and put the Bearkats ahead 27-3. Brian Bell finished 9 of 17 for 121 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. He also ran for 32 yards and a score.

Daveonn Porter rushed for 104 yards on 16 carries for Texas Southern (0-2), including a 50-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Shane Young had 51 yards receiving, including a five-yard touchdown and Richard Sincere added 3 catches for 53 yards for the Bearkats. Keshawn Hill ran seven times for 65 yards and a score for Sam Houston State, which finished with 326 rushing yards. - AP Sports

The senior from Midwest City, Okla. (Midwest City H.S.), became the Southland's No. 2 career rushing leader and tied league record for career touchdowns with 170 yards rushing and three scores. Now with 4,455 career yards, he trails only Claude Mathis (4,694 for Texas State in 1994-97) in the Southland career standings.

His career touchdown total (59 - 55 rushing, four receiving) puts him in a tie with Brent Grimes, who played at UCA from 2006-09. Flanders' 170 yards rushing are the second best total by a Bearkat in Sam Houston's 29 meetings against FBS opponents. He posted 194 yards at New Mexico in 2011 overtime win. Against the Aggies, Flanders had touchdown runs of 11 and 68 yards, which was the third longest of his career. The Aggies had not allowed a back to gain 170 or more yards in 42 consecutive games. The last player to achieve the feat was Colt McCoy of Texas who rushed for 175 yards in 2009. Flanders, a senior from Midwest City, Okla. (Midwest City H.S.), became the Southland's No. 2 career rushing leader and tied league record for career touchdowns with 170 yards rushing and three scores.

07/31/2013 - 2013 PRESEASON ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): RB Timothy Flanders, SHSU, Sr., Midwest City, Okla.,...Flanders, one of the nation's top returning running backs and a top candidate for the Walter Payton Award, led the league in rushing with 109.5 yards per game. He also led the league with 10 100-yard games, including a season-high 231-yard rushing performance in the national semifinals against Eastern Washington.

He was second in the league with 1,770 all-purpose yards thanks to rushes totaling 1,642 and receiving yards totaling 128. Flanders averaged 118.0 all-purpose yards in the Bearkats' 15 games. 07/18/2013 - 2013 WALTER PAYTON AWARD WATCH LIST: Tim Flanders, Sam Houston State Bearkats, Running Back, Senior...Already Sam Houston State's all-time leader in rushing yards (4,234) and scoring (55 touchdowns for 330 points), Flanders begins his senior season just 461 yards shy of becoming the all-time leading rusher in Southland Conference history. The touchdown machine has carried - yes, literally - the Bearkats to each of the last two FCS national championship games.

Along the way, he has finished seventh (2011) and 13th (2012) in the Walter Payton Award voting. He went from being the Southland freshman of the year in 2010 to its player of the year in each of the last two seasons. He has terrific feet and cutback ability that allow him to escape tackles.
