05/12/2014 - A closer look at the Steelers' picks: Round 2/46 - Stephon Tuitt, DE, 6-5 1/2, 312, Notre Dame...He fills a major hole at end after the departures of Ziggy Hood, Al Woods and the loss of Brett Keisel. He should become the rare exception as a regular starter as a rookie in Dick LeBeau's defensive line, the first since Casey Hampton in 2001. - The Sports Xchange

05/08/2014 - 2014 DRAFT SCOUT FINAL TOP 100: 37/4. *Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame, 6-6, 304, 4.92, 1-2...Intriguing bull of a prospect with plenty of natural ability that is enhanced by the attitude of an under-equipped overachiever. That may be the result of strict upbringing by mother, Tamar Bartlett, a deputy sheriff who demanded discipline. After starting slowly last year following sports hernia surgery, Tuitt had six of his career total 20 sacks. An interception last year and previous 77-yard fumble return TD reflect background as prep tight end. A hairline fracture in his foot prevented him from working out at the combine, although he did show his ample strength by hoisting 225 pounds 31 times on the bench. Frankly: Quick, tough, massive man who will give his best, which should be worth at least a high second round pick and a shot at being one of the most reliable interior defensive linemen in the NFL. - Frank Cooney, NFLDraftScout.com

04/03/2014 - 2014 Pro Days: Notre Dame's Nix, Martin take care of business...Projected top-100 draft pick DL Stephon Tuitt was also on campus for the workouts, but didn't participate as he rehabs from left foot surgery - a surprise injury the medical staffs found at the NFL Combine. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

02/20/2014 - 2014 NFL Draft Scout Pre-Combine Top 64 Prospects: 40. *Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame, 6-6, 312, 4.92, 1-2...Intriguing prospect who has plenty of natural ability but has the attitude of an under-equipped overachiever, possibly the result of strict upbringing by mother, Tamar Bartlett, a deputy sheriff who demanded discipline. Last year he had six of his career 20 sacks after starting slowly. An interception last year and previous 77-yard fumble return TD reflect background as prep tight end. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange

01/06/2014 - Notre Dame DL Stephon Tuitt declares for draft...One of the key figures in the rise of Notre Dame 's defense under Brian Kelly has confirmed he will enter the 2014 NFL Draft. Defensive end Stephon Tuitt told Sports Illustrated Sunday that he will forgo his final season of eligibility in South Bend, joining fellow Irish defensive lineman Louis Nix, who signed with an agent in December. The two juniors were the foundation of an Irish defensive line that led the team to the 2013 BCS Championship Game and a No. 30 ranking in yards allowed per-play in the 2013 season. "I'm ready to take my game to another level," Tuitt told SI. "All I did was work out pros and cons, and that helped me realize I have more pros than cons and I'm ready to go. I'm comfortable and confident and I'm ready to take this step for me."

A four-star, top-50 recruit in the Class of 2011 from Monroe, Ga., the 6-foot-6, 312-pound Tuitt lived up to the hype and then some, garnering All-American honors after a sophomore season that saw him record 11 sacks and 11 tackles-for-loss, both team highs. Though slowed at times by injury in 2013, Tuitt still led the team in both categories again, posting 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles-for-loss. - Jerry Hinnen, CBSSports.com

01/06/2014 - Notre Dame defensive end Stephon Tuitt is leaving school early and entering the NFL draft. Notre Dame director of football media relations Michael Bertsch said Tuesday that Tuitt has informed coach Brian Kelly of his decision. Tuitt is the second Irish defensive lineman to declare for the NFL draft, joining nose guard Louis Nix III. Both have been projected as some as possible first-round picks by some, although the 6-foot-6, 312-pound Tuitt was projected as a second-round pick by the NFL draft advisory board. Tuitt, from Monroe, Ga., got off to a slow start in 2013 after offseason surgery for a sports hernia, but had 49 tackles and 7.5 sacks and finishes his career with 126 tackles and 21.5 sacks, leaving him tied for third on Notre Dame's sack list. - AP Sports

12/24/2013 - 2013 FBS ALL-INDEPENDENT FIRST TEAM (MEDIA): DL Stephon Tuitt (Jr.) Notre Dame,...Tuitt has started all 12 games this season and leads all defensive linemen in tackles with 45, tackles for loss with 7.5 and sacks with 6.0. He registered an interception return for touchdown against Michigan, forced a fumble against Arizona State and totaled 13 quarterback hurries. Tuitt has recorded 20.0 career sacks, which ranks fifth in single-season school history. - Notre Dame football

12/09/2013 - Notre Dame nose guard Louis Nix III has signed with an agent and will forego his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL draft, where he is projected by many to be a first-round draft pick. Coach Brian Kelly also said at a news conference Sunday that defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt, a junior, has submitted paperwork to get an evaluation where he likely would be selected if he entered the draft. He also has been projected as a possible first-round pick. Kelly said he's talked some with Tuitt about his decision, but not in depth. ''I've had some preliminary conversations about his academic work. He still has some work to do academically. But we haven't really delved into the depth of that,'' Kelly said.

Kelly said he believes Tuitt should stay and earn his degree before entering the draft. ''I think you come to Notre Dame to get a degree, and I think getting a degree is very important in this whole process,'' he said. He pointed to wide receiver Michael Floyd, linebacker Manti Te'o and tight end Tyler Eifert as players who returned to Notre Dame when they could have left early as examples of players doing well in the NFL. Kelly said Nix's situation is different. - AP Sports

10/24/2013 - Notre Dame defensive end Stephon Tuitt feels as comfortable playing against the option as he does getting after quarterbacks. He will be in the center of things against Air Force on Saturday. With nose guard Louis Nix III nursing a sore shoulder and playing the option not his style, Tuitt is expected to move inside for the Irish (5-2) against Air Force (1-6). Tuitt has shown in the past he can be a disruptive force inside against option teams. Another concern for Air Force is that Tuitt is finally healthy after being slowed by a sports hernia in the last half of last season and being slowed early this season as he recovered from surgery. Tuitt matched had seven tackles against USC last week, matching a career high. - AP Sports

09/07/2013 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: DE Stefon Tuitt, a preseason first team All-American, recorded his 15th career sack against Temple and moved into 10th on the all-time Notre Dame sack list. He was part of a unit that limited Temple to just 3.82 average yards per offensive play in the second half. - The Sports Xchange
