12/01/2013 - SEC's Loucheiz Purifoy and Victor Hampton beef up draft CB class...Purifoy is a physical tackler vs. the run and won't back down, but he needs to do a better job breaking down on the move to finish after contact. He is a talented athlete, but needs a lot of technique work to survive as an outside cornerback in the NFL, tending to freelance too much with an undisciplined, wild style. Purifoy was used all over the Florida secondary this season, seeing time at both inside and outside cornerback, as well as, safety. He also saw playing time on offense, practicing at wide receiver and starting the Tennessee game in the offensive backfield as a running back.
There are questions regarding his best position at the next level because at this point in his development, he's more of an athlete than fundamentally sound cornerback. But he is a gifted player with intriguing skills, showing that vs. Arkansas on a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown. Purifoy does have a good amount of experience on special teams coverage too, blocking a punt against Miami earlier in the season.
Purifoy has some off-the-field concerns that will need to be investigated by NFL teams. The junior was suspended for the 2013 season opener for a violation of team rules and he was also cited this past February for marijuana possession, although that charge was later dropped. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/01/2013 - SEC's Loucheiz Purifoy and Victor Hampton beef up draft CB class...Florida junior cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy and South Carolina junior cornerback Victor Hampton both confirmed on Saturday that they intend to give up their remaining eligibility to enter the 2014 NFL Draft. Purifoy confirmed his decision to ESPN after the Gators 37-7 loss to Florida State while Hampton told his news to multiple media outlets following the Gamecocks 31-17 win over Clemson.
Purifoy is currently ranked as the No. 6 draft-eligible cornerback and the No. 70 prospect overall, according to NFLDraftScout.com. He finished the 2013 season second on the Gators in interceptions (2) and passes defended (9), despite being suspended for the season opener and missing playing time in several games due to nagging injuries. Purifoy is a quick-footed and fluid athlete with smooth hips and body action, showing the natural movements and reflexes of an above average athlete. The Pensacola native has good size for the secondary (6-0, 190) and uses his length well in coverage to get his hands on the ball with 14 passes defended over the past two seasons. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/01/2013 - Florida CB Purifoy to enter draft...Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy told ESPN Saturday that he will enter the NFL draft with one year of eligibility remaining. The two-year starter is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. He has also played wide receiver and on special teams as a kick returner, and on kick coverage and blocking kicks. Purifoy had an interception and returned two kickoffs for 45 yards in Saturday's loss against Florida State. - The Sports Xchange
11/29/2013 - Florida's disappointing season got even worse. Kevin Ellison ran for two touchdowns, Jerick McKinnon had a huge score late and Georgia Southern stunned Florida 26-20 Saturday in what will go down as the worst loss in school history. No lower-division team had ever beaten the Gators, who won their previous seven games against Football Championship Subdivision teams by an average of 45 points. So this was a shocker, even though Florida (4-7) has lost seven in a row and secured its first losing season since 1979. Georgia Southern (7-4) ran for 429 yards and didn't complete a pass all afternoon. Georgia Southern's players rushed the field and celebrated wildly after it was over. They stopped long enough to pose for a team picture on the field, and then the party really started. - AP Sports
10/09/2013 - WEEK 6 COLLEGE FOOTBALL PERFORMANCE AWARDS NATIONAL FBS CO-DEFENSIVE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Loucheiz Purifoy (Florida)...Purifoy finally snagged his first career interception and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown against Arkansas. There was chatter last week about Purifoy's slow start. Other than for a blocked punt at Miami, Purifoy didn't have many season highlights. He made up for that by halftime Saturday, including a sack, forced fumble and pass breakup prior to his interception. Purifoy was named Walter Camp and SEC defensive player of the week for his performance.
He didn't make any excuses when asked after the game about his quiet start. "It's a lot of pressure, but you take it and deal with it,'' Purifoy said of the high expectations prior to the season. "You've got to play and fill up to what people expect. I don't like letting people down. If I let my team down then I ain't doing my job." - Florida football/College Football Performance Awards
10/07/2013 - WEEK 6 SEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Loucheiz Purifoy, DB, Florida...Had the best game of his career against Arkansas, returning his first career interception for a touchdown that gave Florida a lead which it never relinquished. Also made the first sack of his career, pulling Brandon Allen down eight yards behind the line of scrimmage. Added four tackles, three pass breakups and a forced fumble in the win over the Razorbacks.
Assisted a Gator defense that made two sacks against an Arkansas offense that was allowing just 0.6 sacks per game. Had a hand in both Gator turnovers on the day, forcing a fumble on an 8-yard quarter sack and a 42-yard INT return - the first of his career - in the second quarter. Also returned two punts for 17 yards. Named the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week. - SEC football
10/07/2013 - WEEK 6 CBSSPORTS.COM NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy...With road tests against LSU and Missouri in the next two weeks, Florida delivered arguably their best team performance of the season in a 30-10 victory against Arkansas. Florida may have the best secondary in the country, and Saturday's win saw a huge performance from one of its leaders, junior Loucheiz Purifoy. Purifoy recorded four tackles, one sack, three pass backups, a forced fumble and returned interception 42 yards for a touchdown in the win. Arkansas was forced to throw the ball more in the second half due to the offensive success of Solomon Patton and others, and the Gators responded by allowing just three points the entire second half. Up next for Purifoy: Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. - CBSSports.com
10/06/2013 - WEEK 6 WALTER CAMP NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: LOUCHEIZ PURIFOY, FLORIDA, Junior, Cornerback, Pensacola, FL/Pine Forest...Loucheiz Purifoy had an all-around day in the 18th-ranked Gators' 30-10 victory over Arkansas. Purifoy posted four tackles, three pass break ups, one interception, one sack and forced one fumble. Purifoy returned his interceptions 42 yards for a touchdown. With the win, Florida improved to 4-1, 3-0 in the SEC. Purifoy is the sixth Florida player, but the first from defensive side of the ball, to earn Player of the Week honors (since 2004). - The Walter Camp Football Foundation
10/05/2013 - Solomon Patton had never caught a touchdown pass in his career before this season. Florida's senior receiver now has four in five games -- including 51-and 38-yard scores in Saturday's 30-10 win over Arkansas. Loucheiz Purifoy didn't have an interception in his first two years as a Gator. He took care of that, as well, by returning his first pick 42 yards for a touchdown to put Florida ahead for good.
Now Florida can prepare for a huge game at LSU next weekend that is a virtual must-win if the Gators are to stay close in the SEC East. Florida center Jon Harrison was ejected in the third quarter when he appeared to turn and say something to an official, who flagged him for unsportsmanlike conduct. Harrison was replaced at center by Kyle Koehne, a senior with a wealth of experience on the line. SEC official Greg Sankey said Harrison will not face further suspension for next week's LSU game. As strong as Florida (4-1 overall, 3-0 in SEC play) looked from the third quarter on, shutting down a Razorbacks running game that ranks among the conference's best. - The Sports Xchange
10/01/2013 - Defense is getting the job done at Florida. After holding Kentucky to just one touchdown and 173 yards in total offense, the Gators are No. 1 in the SEC in scoring defense (12.8 points a game), No. 1 against the rush (53.5 yards per game), No. 1 in total defense (202.5 yards), and No. 1 in third-down defense (holding opponents to just a 17.8 percent conversion rate). - The Sports Xchange
09/07/2013 - ROB RANG'S 09/06/13 TOP 32 2014 DRAFT PROSPECTS: 23. Louchiez Purifoy*, CB, Florida (6-0, 185): An explosive athlete with a knack for making big plays at cornerback and on special teams, Purifoy is as talented as they come. He's a better athlete than football player, at this point, and must prove that he's mature enough to handle the big stage. He was one of six Gators suspended for the season opener. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
09/07/2013 - Scouting the Florida pass defense: Florida held Toledo's up-tempo offense to 155 yards passing. The longest completion for the Rockets went 28 yards. Florida was able to generate a consistent pass rush against Toledo, finishing with two sacks and eight QB hurries. The Gators will need to do the same against Miami QB Stephen Morris, who is one of the top passers in the ACC. The return of CB Loucheiz Purifoy from a disciplinary suspension should help the secondary. - The Sports Xchange
08/31/2013 - ROB RANG'S 08/30/13 BIG BOARD: 23. CB Loucheiz Purifoy, Florida (6-0, 185, 4.47)* -- An explosive athlete with a knack for making big plays at cornerback and on special teams, Purifoy is as talented as they come. At this point, however, he's a better athlete than football player, and he needs to improve in the finer techniques of the position to justify this lofty ranking. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
08/30/2013 - Starting cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy is one of six Florida players who have been suspended for Saturday's season opener against Toledo for violations of team rules, the Gainesville Sun reported Friday. Purifoy, a junior, was scheduled to play on offense, defense and special teams for the Gators, and was expected to be on the field for more snaps than anyone else on the team. One other starter -- middle linebacker Antonio Morrison - was among the six players suspended for the opener.
The four others are defensive tackles Darious Cummings and Jay-nard Bostwick, wide receiver Latroy Pittman and offensive lineman Quinteze Williams. Florida coach Will Muschamp had said Wednesday that Morrison was the only player suspended from the opener. But that, apparently, has changed. Purifoy will be replaced in the starting lineup at cornerback by senior Jaylen Watkins. - The Sports Xchange
08/26/2013 - 2013 PRESEASON ALL-SEC FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DB - Loucheiz Purifoy, Florida,...Has played in 26 games, starting 12, and making 78 tackles, for the Gators...Also has seen time on offense, with one rush for eight yards and one reception for five yards in 2012...Has five pass breakups, four forced fumbles and two blocked kicks in his career. - Florida football
08/21/2013 - TOP FLORIDA PROSPECTS FOR THE 2014 NFL DRAFT: 1. CB Loucheiz Purifoy (6-0, 185, 4.47)*...A highly aggressive defender, Purifoy finished fourth on the team with 51 tackles and broke up five passes in his first season as a starter but it was the versatility he showed on special teams and even on offense that has Florida dreaming of what their versatile star could have in store for 2013. Purifoy logged one carry (for 8 yards) and one reception (for 5) in 2012 but the timing of his appearances last year (Florida State, Sugar Bowl) and reps he's taken in practice this summer indicate that he could see significantly more action on offense in 2013. It isn't difficult to understand why all of the Florida coaches are requesting that the talented junior line up for them.
Purifoy is just as passionate and physical when covering or returning on special teams as he is playing coverage, coming up in run support or attacking the quarterback off the edge on the blitz. What's more, he has a knack for making game-changing plays. He forced two early fumbles against South Carolina and blocked two kicks a season ago -- a field goal and a punt -- in tight wins over Louisiana (Gators won 27-20) and Missouri (14-7), respectively. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
08/21/2013 - TOP FLORIDA PROSPECTS FOR THE 2014 NFL DRAFT: 1. CB Loucheiz Purifoy (6-0, 185, 4.47)*...Well-built and light on his feet, Purifoy certainly looks the part of a top-flight NFL prospect. Better yet, he's been asked to play in a NFL-style defense. The Gators ask their corners to play tight man to man coverage on most snaps and Purifoy handles this responsibility well. He will extend to jam the receiver, at times, but is athletic enough to simply turn and run with most, demonstrating fluid hips, quickness and straight-line speed. Ironically enough, the corner may actually be at his best against the run. Purifoy is very quick to read run, fighting through blocks to get involved in the action.
This aggression allowed quarterbacks to pepper him with underneath, out-breaking routes at times, rarely giving him opportunities to make plays on the ball (zero career interceptions). While the lack of interceptions is troubling, Purifoy creates turnovers as a physical hitter who rips and punches at the ball frequently and has four forced fumbles over his 26 games (12 starts). If Purifoy gets the opportunity to be a two-way player for the Gators in 2013, his exposure will, of course, rise dramatically. To take the next step toward a high pick from an NFL team, however, he'll need to prove that quarterbacks -- and not just other ball-carriers -- need to fear putting the ball anywhere near him. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

05/16/2013 - Keep an eye on Florida's Purifoy...Loucheiz Purifoy, a rising junior from Pensacola, is Florida's best cover corner. But Purifoy spent the first seven practices in the spring at wide receiver. "I wanted to put some pressure on our receiving corps because we need to step it up at that position," said head coach Will Muschamp. Florida signed five wide receivers last February and the hope is that one or two of them will give the Gators' the big-play component that they have been lacking at that position. Demarcus Robinson enrolled early and took part in spring practice. He is expected to be a star.
But if the freshmen don't come through this season then Muschamp may lean on Purifoy to go both ways. Florida has gone three straight seasons without a 50-catch wide receiver. Purifoy will work the first 14 practices at corner in August. Then a decision will be made on how much to use him a wide receiver. "He has a unique skill set," Muschamp said of Purifoy. "He is very good with the ball in his hands. He has the 'it' factor." Purifoy losing snaps on defense would be a pretty big concession for Muschamp, the former defensive coordinator. "He is a really good cover corner," Muschamp said. - Tony Barnhart, CBSSports.com
05/04/2013 - 2014 NFL DRAFT: EARLY TOP-50 DRAFT BOARD: 25. CB Loucheiz Purifoy, Florida (6-0, 190, 4.47)*...A two-way star who plays at corner and receiver, Purifoy is a terrific athlete with good length who has a knack for making plays on the ball. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
03/14/2013 - Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy is a star in one of the deepest secondaries in the SEC. This spring, he is taking starter's reps on offense for the first time since high school. Gators coach Will Muschamp informed the rising junior of plans to play both cornerback and wide receiver in the 2013 season. In order to help Purifoy learn the offense, offensive coordinator Brent Pease has named Purifoy the No. 1 wide receiver at the Z position to start spring practice. "You can't always just put Loucheiz in and throw a screen or run a reverse with him every time he's in the game," Muschamp said via the Palm Beach Post. "We need to expand his package if we're going to continue to move forward with that. "We just need to get him more turns and reps at the position and not get away from what he does best, which is cover."
After seven days of practice at wide receiver, Purifoy will return to the defensive backfield and begin developing his routine as a hybrid player. That role will not be unusual for Purifoy; a two-way player in high school. Purifoy played offense most of his early football career until his high school team needed an athletic presence during his senior year. - Chip Patterson, CBSSports.com
02/21/2013 - The state attorney's office in Florida has decided to drop misdemeanor marijuana possession charges against Gators starting cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy, The Gainesville Sun reported on Thursday. Purifoy, a rising junior, was cited on Feb. 6 after a traffic stop for possessing less than 20 grams of pot. However, the charges will now go away due to a lack of evidence.
"He never had any marijuana on him, therefore he was not guilty of possession of marijuana," said Huntley Johnson, Purifoy's attorney. Purifoy started 12 games and was fourth on the team in tackles with 51 in 2012. - Chris Huston, CBSSports.com
02/07/2013 - Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy was arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession in the early morning hours on Sunday. The sophomore was given a notice to appear just after midnight when an officer from the Gainesville Police Department pulled over a car he was a passenger in for a right-of-way violation. According to the arrest report, Purifoy was in the back seat. One of the passengers threw a cannabis cigarette out of the window, but a police officer identified "a baggie containing 2.5 grams of cannabis" near the emergency brake.
Purifoy has a preliminary court date set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 21, according to Alachua County court records. His arrest marks the eighth for the Gators on a marijuana-related charge since Will Muschamp took over as head coach. "Coach Muschamp is aware of the incident and is handling it," a UF spokesman said. During the 2012 season, Purifoy recorded 51 tackles and broke up five passes. He also forced three fumbles and blocked two kicks. - Thomas Goldkamp, GatorBait.com
01/02/2013 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: Muschamp said that CB Loucheiz Purifoy could see more time as a two-way CB/WR next season. "Loucheiz is going to be a corner for us," Muschamp said. "But, at the end of the day, we've got to create a role for him because he is an explosive guy. He makes plays with the ball in his hands. He has tremendous ball skills. You can't ever have enough of those guys, and we need to have more. He's a guy that we're going to find a role as we move forward in every game to get explosive guys the ball. He's one of those guys at this time." - The Sports Xchange
