Overview

Bondzio emerged from the shadow of current Dallas Cowboys PK Nick Folk at Arizona to ultimately top former Groza winner Steve McLaughlin and Max Zendejas as the most accurate kicker in school history with completion rate of 83 percent. Bondzio's accuracy on field goals inside of 50 yards could earn him an NFL roster spot. His size limitations and questions about his effectiveness as a deep kicker may force his next team to also employ a long-distance specialist.

Analysis

Positives: Excellent accuracy for short- and medium-range kicks. … At least adequate leg strength for kickoffs and long-distance field goals. … Displays consistent depth on kickoffs. … Quick to the ball and kicks with a high trajectory to avoid blocks. … Consistent accuracy. … Poised. … Never missed more than one kick in a game at Arizona.

Negatives: Lacks size and strength. … Offers little as a defender on returns. … Despite leg strength shown on kickoffs, has only one attempt from 50-plus (missed). … Loses height on long kicks which put him at risk for blocked attempts.

2007 Season

Honorable Mention All--Pac 10. Bondzio stepped out of the shadow left by Nick Folk (Dallas Cowboy All-Pro as a rookie in '07) and got it going. Actually, he missed his first career field goal attempt but then reeled off 14 of his next 16 tries, and showed more distance than expected. He finished No. 11 nationally at 1.75 per game, and narrowly missed a school-record 59 yarder. His 21 makes were No. 3 in UA history behind '94 Lou Groza winner Steve McLaughlin and legendary Max Zendejas - whose nephew Alex will push Bondzio for action as redshirt freshman. Bondzio's kickoffs were huge for UA, too, with 22 touchdbacks.
