Overview

Holmes came to Oklahoma as a wide receiver and moved to cornerback before settling in at free safety. Has the size and athleticism NFL scouts are looking for in a developmental prospect. While his defensive backfield mate, Nic Harris, often earned more attention, Holmes' development drew interest from scouts and he has the size and versatility to earn a higher grade than Harris in April.

Analysis

Positives: Good height and has the frame to add additional mass without a significant loss in quickness. … Aggressive defender that comes up quickly in run support. … Versatile defender with experience playing throughout the secondary. … At least adequate straight-line speed. … Long arms. … Physical in his jam at the line of scrimmage and when fighting through blocks. … Reliable open field tackler. … Breaks down well in space and has improved as a hitter. … Experienced blitzer who can close. … Natural hands for the interception. … Considered an ascending player.

Negatives: Bit of a "tweener." … May lack the hip flexibility to turn and run with receivers and lacks the bulk teams prefer at safety. … Has been protected by Oklahoma's aggressive scheme and may struggle in a more traditional NFL defense. … Was suspended for the 2008 Fiesta Bowl due to academics.
