Overview

LSU's front four, which was more like a front eight because of the depth available to coach Les Miles, helped Alexander get lost among a pool of D-Line talent. That was especially true considering he didn't roll up big totals in tackles or sacks (24 tackles with five solos, 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack in 2008). He missed all but three games as a junior in 2007 with a knee injury after coming on strong as a sophomore. His strong return as a block-eating interior lineman got scouts' attention.

Analysis

Positives: Has the upper-body strength, arm length and wide base to play nose tackle. … Gets good push by maintaining good leverage, keeping his hands active and moving his feet into the pocket. … Can move down the line while engaged. … Discards blocking fullbacks inside to make plays on the ball. … Willing to chase to the sideline and hustle downfield. … Uses his hands and a strong anchor to stand up or split double teams. … Spins off blocks if slanting away from the play.

Negatives: A bit heavy in the middle. … Is not explosive out of his stance and doesn't often penetrate into the backfield. … Lacks suddenness or violent hands when rushing the passer. … Inconsistent recovering from cut blocks. … Best as part of a rotation because he will tire. … Medical check required on his torn right ACL. Played with a brace last season.

Latest News
02/12/2010 - PRO POTENTIAL: DT Charles Alexander - Injuries probably kept Alexander from reaching his full potential, but he's a solid defender who could go in the late rounds.

02/04/2010 - Texas vs. the Nation, Wednesday: One day after seeing LSU defensive tackle Charles Alexander have his way in drills, he failed to do much of anything in team work, with New Mexico center Erik Cook and UTEP guard Mike Aguayo handled him easily inside. That inconsistency is the reason he's in El Paso this week, and was not in Mobile for last week's Senior Bowl. Two other D-line prospects who flashed enough this week to earn respect were Ole Miss edge-rush specialist DE Emmanuel Stephens (6-2, 247) and active three-technique DT Jimmy Saddler-McQueen (6-3, 298) from Texas A&M-Kingsville. - Chad Reuter, The SportsXchange, NFLDraftScout.com
