Overview

Tough field general with a competitive nature … Will usually step up in the pocket to take the hit rather than throw the ball into a crowd … Has adequate arm strength and is more effective in a short to intermediate passing game … Shows a quick setup and balance to drive away from center to get to his set point … Throws with an over-the-top motion and holds the ball numbers-high when sitting in the pocket … When he is forced to throw on the move, his release varies and he loses accuracy and touch … His passes seem to lose air when throwing long up the middle, but he has enough zip on his outside tosses in the medium range … Not really flustered by the pass rush, but will take off too early when he feels the pocket about to collapse, mostly due to his inability to sense pressure coming from the backside … Good leader with command of the huddle … Does a nice job of anticipating when his receivers will come open and does can find his secondary targets going through progression … Has good body thickness, but has only smooth muscle tone and short arms and small hands for his position, but shows good quickness in his release and delivery … He will not force his throws, showing good awareness, compensating for a lack of a powerful arm with touch and accuracy in the short area … His problem comes when he tries to throw it down field, as his lack of arm strength limits his velocity … Is a good practice player who studies film and even sits in on the coaches' meetings … Well-versed, having started 45 games in the Owls' pro-style offense … His timed speed is not seen on the football field, as he feels pressure late and lacks the slide agility to find the rush lane when his targets are covered … Defenses know Jared is not a threat to run with the ball and he loses his accuracy when throwing on the move … Developing talent who can make a roster due to his field smarts.
