- Scott Kovanda, a senior punter on the 2012 Ball State football team, has been invited to the National Football League Scouting Combine Feb. 20-26 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Kovanda, who was one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award which goes to the nation's top collegiate punter, will appear at the showcase for physical and mental tests in front of NFL coaches, general managers and scouts.
Kovanda, who served as a team captain for the Cardinals in 2012, punted 44 times this season and pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 236 times. He helped Ball State to rank fourth in the country in punt return defense with the Cardinals allowing only 1.0 yards per return and having only six punts returned this season. He punted for 1,767 yards and a 40.2 average this season, including six punts of 50 or more yards.
