Armstrong, the 2013 GLIAC Offensive Lineman of the Year and four-time All-GLIAC honoree, helped GVSU to become one of nine teams in Division II to average over 210 yards rushing and 240 yards passing per game. Armstrong graded out at a 97-percent assignment efficiency rating and has played in 50 career games, including 47 starts. The Lakers are 43-7 with Armstrong in their lineup, as the Gene Upshaw Award Finalist has helped lead the Lakers to an NCAA Division II National Semifinal appearance this year.

05/13/2014 - New Orleans Saints announce 2014 rookie free agent class: Matthew Armstrong - Offensive Lineman, Grand Valley State (6-2, 302): Armstrong appeared in 51 games, mostly at center, in four years with the Lakers, starting at least one contest in each spot along the offensive line. The 2013 FCS Rimington Trophy winner was also named the GLIAC Offensive Lineman of the Year and a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award while serving as a key contributor to Grand Valley's 12-3 record.
