2011 Draft Team Needs

East · North · South · West

NFLDraftScout.com provides a positional breakdown of team needs looking at the 2011 NFL Draft. Free agents listed are those expected to be unrestricted free agents based on the new rules in the Collective Bargaining Agreement which allow players with at least six accrued NFL seasons to become UFAs. The ratings, broken down by position for each team, will be updated frequently leading up to the draft and beyond. An explanation of what a rating number represents is listed at the bottom of each page. Copyright NFLDraftScout.com, distributed by The Sports Xchange

Notes
Jason Garrett is now officially taking the reins of the exceedingly-disappointing but still talented Cowboys. To succeed in 2011, Garrett must keep QB Tony Romo healthy and give their RBs more room to run, so upgrading a shoddy offensive line should be high on the wish list. DE Marcus Spears is the team's biggest free agent, but it's not clear the team will pursue him. Upgrading their safeties would help a below-average pass defense.

Notes
The Giants finished the season on a down note, but it would be foolish not to think head coach Tom Coughlin and QB Eli Manning will bounce back. Coughlin and RB Brandon Jacobs appears to have mended their relationship, but the team may also re-evaluate their offensive line after the season, however, finally moving David Diehl inside. Don't be surprised if Coughlin looks to bolster their defensive tackle and linebacker groups early in the draft if they lose a couple of key free agents. Drafting depth at corner and safety also seem likely moves.

Current Injuries
Ricky Sapp, DE - He fell down draft boards due to injury, so its not surprising he will "redshirt"his first NFLseason on IR.
Notes
Philly's in the position they're in because of Michael Vick, who is likely to be franchised or sign a long-term deal after the season. The question is whether they keep Kevin Kolb for insurance in 2011 or trade him before he becomes a free agent in 2012. Other impending free agents include starters OLB Ernie Sims, CB Ellis Hobbs, and SS Quintin Mikell, as well as reserves RB Jerome Harrison, reserve OG/C Nick Cole and Reggie Wells and MLB Omar Gaither. Finding depth on the offensive line (or even upgraded starters), running back, and linebacker should therefore be priorities.

Notes
Washington rejoiced in the arrival of QB Donovan McNabb, but both he and DT Albert Haynesworth were colossal disasters under Mike Shanahan. With McNabb likely gone, the head coach will look for a young QB in addition to fortifying the offensive line and finding better receivers. RB Ryan Torian can't stay healthy and Clinton Portis may not be around much longer, either. The defense was good enough to keep the team in games, but may look totally different with all of the free agents possibly leaving (and arriving, knowing owner Daniel Snyder's M.O.) Improvements on the defensive line and in the secondary are necessary.
