Bud Adams wants Peyton Manning to sign with Titans

While Peyton Manning narrows down his potential destinations -- he was in Denver on Friday and Saturday and in Arizona on Sunday -- another team that was far off the radar is making its own pitch.

That's the Titans -- whose owner, Bud Adams is, according to the Tennessean, willing to do “whatever it takes” to sign Manning. So, um, that's kind of out of left field, eh?

Adams told the newspaper that he's been in contact with Tom Condon, Manning's agent, and wants Manning to visit Nashville.

“He is the man I want. Period,” Adams said. “And the people that work for me understand that. They know who I want. I want Mr. Manning with the Titans and I will be disappointed if it doesn't happen.”

That could put him at odds with his general manager (Ruston Webster), his chief operating office (Mike Reinfeldt) and his coach (Mike Munchak). In fact, Webster said last month that the Titans were happy with Matt Hasselbeck and 2011 first-round pick Jake Locker on the roster.
But the Colts release of Manning apparently can make one develop illusions of grandeur.

“I hope to be one of the teams he looks at,” Adams said. ”Since he went to school in Tennessee I think Tennessee is where he should be. I think he could play for two or three years. I think he's the guy that could come in and turn this around for us.

“That's why I am so anxious to get him to come visit with us and I want him on my team. I could sit down with him and show him what (we'd be willing to pay). If he would come (meet) with me he would be happy with what he'd get.”

And if there was any question about who will be making the decisions on this matter, Adams gave an emphatic answer. “I am 650 miles away (in Houston),” Adams said, “but (they) will do what I say to do because that's the guy I want and I am going to make the decision.”
