DeMaurice Smith reaffirmed as NFLPA executive director

DeMaurice Smith was unanimously reaffirmed as NFLPA executive director on Thursday, the NFLPA announced. A formal election is set to come on Sunday, but they're basically a formality at this point, and Smith is expected to receive a three-year extension.

Smith was elected to his position in March of 2009 and led the NFLPA through a pretty harrowing time: one of the most public and fiery labor stoppages in NFL history.

Per Albert Breer of the NFL Network, ex-President Kevin Mawae stood up at the NFLPA meeting and made it quite clear that the union should get behind Smith.

"De's our guy. Anyone gonna motion to re-affirm now, instead of waiting?" Mawae said.

Breer reports that "one player motioned ... another player seconded [and] they voted unanimously."

The news of Smith's reelection was first broken by ... Jay Feely.
