NFL awards 32 2012 NFL Draft compensatory picks to 15 clubs

Each year, the NFL awards compensatory draft picks to teams that lose more free agents than they gain the previous year. And the NFL announced on Monday that it awarded 32 compensatory picks to 15 different clubs for the 2012 NFL Draft.

Per NFL rules, "the number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four."

As usual, the compensatory picks are positioned between the third round and the seventh round. How the picks are determined uses a "formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors."

Only three teams -- the Falcons, Bills and Chargers -- will receive a compensatory pick even though they did not suffer a net loss in free agency. The Browns, Jets and Packers all picked up the most picks, with four each.
