Roger Goodell won't hear Saints bounty appeals on Tuesday

On Monday, Roger Goodell said that a decision on the Saints bounty appeals would likely be made by the end of the week. That makes sense, as Goodell was supposed to hear the appeals on Tuesday.

Emphasis on was, too, because according to CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, there's no known date for the appeals.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported earlier that "the hearings were never scheduled for Tuesday." Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Payton and the members of the Saints who are appealing want to push the hearing back as far as possible, ostensibly to create more time to prepare for next season.

The league, according to Schefter, would like to hear the appeals as soon as possible, but couldn't do so on Tuesday "due to a setback."

Here's a theory (from me, which is only a theory): the league and Nike are set to unveil new uniforms in New York City on Tuesday. This is a huge deal, and potentially tremendous press for both the NFL and Nike.

They would likely prefer that the announcement and unveiling not be shrouded by reports of what Goodell said to Payton. Or perhaps Goodell would prefer to see the unveiling.

Or maybe Payton had a conflict with the Buffett tour.
