Jim Irsay: 'Things have always pointed' to Andrew Luck, but 'open minded'

Find someone who's projecting the Colts to take Robert Griffin III first overall in a mock draft, and you'll find someone who's (foolishly) thinking outside the box: the general consensus is that Jim Irsay and new general manager Ryan Grigson are locked into grabbing Andrew Luck in the 2012 NFL Draft.

And Irsay confirmed as much on Saturday afternoon, when he tweeted that "things have always pointed" to Indianapolis nabbing Luck with their top pick in the draft, even though they remain "open minded."
Irsay's used similar language before, saying that the Colts are "still in the evaluation process" when it comes to their No. 1 overall pick.

And it's hard to blame the Colts for doing their due diligence and checking out RG3 as a possible first-overall pick.

Besides, getting absolutely locked into Luck wouldn't exactly beef up the Colts leverage in any negotiations (not that leverage with a first-round pick means as much anymore).

The only thing that makes Irsay's lack of a decision at the top of the draft awkward at this point is that the Redskins are basically acting like RG3 is their guy already, before the draft's even begun.

The lesson to take from Irsay's tweet though? The Colts are locked into Luck, and will take him No. 1 overall in April. Just like they've been planning to since they clinched the top pick back in January.
