Last week, days after drafting wide receivers DeVier Posey and Keshawn Martin in the Rounds 2 and 3, the Texans released Jacoby Jones, a former third-round pick who never developed into the No. 2 option opposite Andre Johnson the organization envisioned when they selected him out of Lane College.

On Tuesday, the Ravens signed Jones to a two-year, $7 million deal, the team website reported. He will have he opportunity to be Baltimore's third receiver behind Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith, as well as assume the punt return duties from Lardarius Webb, who recently signed a six-year $50 million contract extension.

Jones, who had 31 receptions for 512 yards and two touchdowns last season, will have competition from Tandon Doss, LaQuan Williams, David Reed and Tommy Streeter.

General manager Ozzie Newsome said that "Adding Jacoby gives us another proven downfield weapon in our passing game and production with our returns. His experience makes the offense better, and the competition he brings can help raise our levels at receiver and with punt and kickoff returns."

Jones' best season came in 2010 when he caught 51 passes for 562 yards, although his 11.0 YPC was a career low. In Baltimore he'll be reunited with former Texans teammates Vonta Leach and Bernard Pollard.

Pollard, meanwhile, has another reason to celebrate: Baltimore signed him to a three-year extension.

"(Pollard's) physical presence on the back end is very important to the way we play defense," Newsome said according to CBSSports.com Rapid Reporter Jason Butt. "He has indicated since the first day he stepped into our building last training camp that he wanted to be a Raven for the long haul."
