Miami LB Karlos Dansby expects Dolphins 'to win the AFC, period'

Every year in the NFL, several teams surprise and unexpectedly make the playoffs. Usually there are about five of them. If I'm picking today, the Dolphins aren't in that group that sneaks into the postseason in 2012.

Miami linebacker Karlos Dansby wouldn't agree with me. Not in the slightest, in fact. He expects the Fins to "win the AFC."

"As a team, I'm expecting us to win the AFC, period. Point blank," Dansby said, per Steve Waters of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "We've got the talent. We have the coaching. We've just got to put it all together. It's going to come down to us as players going out and excelling and making sure we do everything we possibly can to win every game."

The Dolphins have a lot of talent. But they also have a new coach in Joe Philbin, a lackluster group of wideouts after trading away Brandon Marshall, a new defensive scheme to learn and adjust to, a potentially difficult division and a serious quarterback controversy.

In short, Miami's not the type of team you'd pencil in to make some postseason noise, at least if we're going to make such projections 100 days away from the first NFL game of the season.

But Dansby's making such a projection and even though it's horribly unrealistic, it's nice to see that he's on board with projecting confidence for his team before the season.
