Former Bills QB Jim Kelly hopes Sanchez vs. Tebow tears Jets locker room apart

It's not an exaggeration to suggest that everyone has an opinion on Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez and the Jets' locker room dynamic. General manager Mike Tannebaum has made it clear on several occasions that Sanchez is the starting quarterback, and former Jets great Joe Namath fully endorses that decision. But Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey said in April that Sanchez "can't feel too comfortable" about his job security, and during an appearance on NFL Network's Total Access on Thursday, Hall of Famer and former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly became one of the last people on the planet to weigh in on the situation.

"I gotta be honest: I don't know what (the Jets) really were thinking," Kelly said via NFL.com, echoing the sentiments of a lot of people when Tebow was sent to the Big Apple in March. "Mark Sanchez is a quarterback who's going to be sitting there every single game if he plays bad, and No. 1, you know Jets fans -- they're going to start booing. ...

"I think (there's) a lot of pressure on Sanchez to not only start off hot, but continue game after game after game playing steady," Kelly said. "If he doesn't, you know you're going to hear the boo birds. People want Tim Tebow in there."

This is exactly what we wrote shortly after the 2012 NFL schedule was released this spring. We even speculated that Tebow Time could happen as early as Week 6 should the Jets get off to a 2-3 start with a struggling Sanchez under center. (They face the Bills, Steelers, Dolphins, 49ers and Texans to start the season.)

Whatever happens, Kelly says he likes both players.

"I thought Sanchez was a very good quarterback coming on. If I was a general manager or president or owner of the team, I wouldn't have done that (trade) unless I got rid of Sanchez. But I think he's a good enough quarterback to be there. Tim Tebow's a great athlete who's going to be a big plus for somebody. But in New York? I'm not sure."

Ultimately, Kelly's allegiances lie with the Bills, where he played for 11 seasons and appeared in four Super Bowls.

“As a Buffalo Bills fan, I hope there's so much turmoil during training camp, I hope Tebow plays great, he pushes Sanchez, and all of a sudden the locker room is coming apart,” he said. “They open with the Buffalo Bills first game of the season in the Meadowlands, so this could be very exciting.”

And if you're going to the Super Bowl, it doesn't hurt to beat the teams in your division.
