Adrian Peterson hires Clemens lawyer Rusty Hardin; A.P. likely just getting fined

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

Right now, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is remaining pretty quiet about his arrest over the weekend, waiting for the truth to surface. But actions speak louder than words sometimes, and Peterson's reportedly hired Rusty Hardin to represent him.

Hardin, as you probably know, was Roger Clemens lawyer, and helped the former star pitcher to skate away from federal prosecution with no blood and only a few tears shed. AP's alleged crimes are far less concerning, regardless of what you think about federal prosecutions.

ESPN first reported the hire and considering what Houston police told NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal, it makes the hire a bit surprising. A HPD spokesman told NFL.com that Peterson will "probably end up with a fine because Peterson's charge is a misdemeanor."

So, essentially, Peterson seems set to skate from this with his wallet a little lighter. That's why it doesn't make a ton of sense for Peterson to hire a high-powered guy like Hardin.

Here are a few theories: 1) Peterson's concerned about more than just the fine, 2) Peterson feels like he's been wronged with the arrest and will seek legal retribution, 3) even a fine is unacceptable to Peterson.

And, of course, my favorite: AP has a lot of money and he's using that cash to buy some of the best legal representation said cash can afford.

That seems like the most likely scenario here, although we're almost certain to find out at some point this week. It would be surprising if Peterson and Hardin didn't begin to provide the running back's own version of the facts at some point soon.
