Josh Gordon signs 4-year deal worth $5.3 mil

When the Browns shocked former Baylor receiver Josh Gordon (and just about everybody else) by selecting him in the second round of the supplemental draft last week, he vowed he wouldn't let down the organization that has given him his first chance in pro football.

Quickly, the Browns have made sure to reward Gordon once again.

According to The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, the team and Gordon have agreed to a four-year, $5.3 million deal that includes $3.8 million guaranteed. That's pretty good money for a guy who has had some off-the-field issues.

Not that Cleveland general manager Tom Heckert believes Gordon's selection is much of a risk.

“It's something that we really did our homework on, there's no question about it,” Heckert said last week. “We brought the kid in and met with him here then I talked to a zillion guys at both Baylor and Utah. To be honest with you, I couldn't find anybody to say one bad thing about the kid. I really enjoyed meeting with him. It's something that is out there that we think we have done our homework on. But to say we're 100 percent, we're not 100 percent on anybody in the draft, but we felt good enough that we think he is going to be a positive influence on our team.”

But as NFL Draft Scout's Rob Rang wrote, it's still unclear how many drug tests Gordon failed (either two at Baylor as has been reported or two at Baylor and one at Utah, which Gordon has denied).

At this point, I suppose, the number doesn't matter. Clearly, the Browns feel Gordon is clean, and they're paying him quite a bit to show him that they believe in him.
