No real progress in negotiations between Ravens and quarterback Joe Flacco

With the Ravens and Ray Rice coming to terms Monday on a long-term deal, the focus now shifts to Joe Flacco, who enters the final year of his rookie contract. Depending on who you ask, Flacco ranks anywhere from ninth to 14th among NFL starting quarterbacks (ask Flacco and he'll tell you he's No. 1), and his agent, Joe Linta, has previously suggested that his client is in line for top-5 money.

On Wednesday, an NFL.com report indicated that there was a "75 percent chance" Flacco will get his new contract prior to the start of training camp next week.

While Flacco is clearly a priority for the Ravens, CBSSports.com sources aren't quite as bullish on the timeline of events, noting that the two sides haven't made any real progress on the terms of a new contract and nothing is impending. Instead, it's more likely that a deal will happen sometime during the season, or perhaps directly after it, since there isn't a massive push coming from either side to do it immediately.

Along those lines, Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times wrote Tuesday evening that "Although contract talks between the Flacco camp and Ravens vice president of football administration Pat Moriarty have been characterized as amicable, no deal is imminent at this time."

Linta told Wilson that "Joe is very, very excited for the season. He's really adamant about getting the Ravens to the next step. The contract at this point is secondary to that goal. Joe has the attitude that he'll earn it." He added that "We've had great conversations, and we're going to keep talking. Everything is good. We're going to keep talking, keep the lines of communication open."

Exactly how much money Flacco will be looking for is another issue, and one we discussed in great detail on the latest Pick-6 Podcast.
