Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning calls victims of Aurora shooting to offer support

Tragedy struck Aurora, Colo., on Friday when James Holmes allegedly opened fire in a crowded movie theater during the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, killing 12 and wounding 58 people.

There is no conceivable way to express the proper amount of sorrow for the families and friends of those effected by the tragedy. But Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is doing what he can, calling some of the victims at the Medical Center of Aurora in an attempt to improve their outlook.

A Medical Center of Aurora spokeswoman told the Associated Press that Manning spent Saturday calling some of the victims and speaking with them one-on-one.

Manning signed with the Broncos this offseason, and it shouldn't be tremendously surprising to see him doing his part to help the community. Whether you like Manning as a player doesn't matter -- the guy gives a lot back (most notably via his personal foundation and the children's hospital named for him in Indianapolis).

And getting a call from Manning isn't going to revert someone's life to the way it was before the tragedy, but as far as inspirational celebrities go, Peyton's a pretty good one. It's cool to see him doing what he can to help out the victims of this absolutely senseless violence.

It's also not merely Manning who's serving the community either. The Broncos tweeted out a picture of several players -- Jacob Tamme, Eric Decker, Chris Kuper, Ben Garland, Ryan Clady, Joe Mays and Brian Dawkins-- visiting the victims in the hospital.
