The possibility of Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant receiving punishment for his latest transgression -- an arrest on a misdemeanor domestic abuse charge -- decreased Monday.

That's because, according to the NBC TV affiliate in Dallas-Fort Worth, Bryant's mother, Angela Bryant, won't press charges against her son. This, even though she supposedly told somebody while she was on the phone with a 911 operator that Dez Bryant “tried to kill me.”

Angela Bryant originally told police that the Cowboys receiver hit her in the face with a ball cap, pulled her hair, tore her shirt and bra, and repeatedly hit her hands and wrists while she tried to defend herself. She also reportedly told somebody who was in the room while she was on the phone with 911 that “I can't keep letting him do this. ... I can't let him do me like this. I'm tired. I'm going to put an end to it today.”

Even if Angela Bryant doesn't press charges, the TV station reports that the district attorney's office might want to speak to hear about the decision not to do so.

If she declines to continue the prosecution, Dez Bryant will be cleared of any charges relating to the incident.
