Less than 24 hours after the Browns signed No. 3 pick Trent Richardson pick to a four-year, $20.884 million deal, Cleveland has locked up its other first-round selection, CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora has confirmed.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, No. 22 pick Brandon Weeden has inked a deal worth $8.1 million over four years. According to The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, the first three years of his deal are guaranteed along with a partial guarantee worth $900,000 in his fourth season.
Now, Weeden can get into training camp and go about the business of taking away Colt McCoy's starting quarterback job. But in case you've forgotten, the selection of Weeden wasn't without controversy.
Our CBSSports.com colleague Pete Prisco gave the draft selection a big, fat F, writing “I don't like this pick at all. Is he really that much better than McCoy? Plus, he's 28. Weird. Are the Browns better?”
Perhaps not, but right now, Weeden is much richer.
