Vikings put Adrian Peterson on PUP list after he 'put up a fight'

Adrian Peterson's made some pretty beasty strides this offseason in his recovery from a Christmas-time knee blowout. But he still isn't totally healed and as a result the Vikings placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

According to Leslie Frazier, via the Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, Peterson was none too happy about the move either.

"He put up a fight," Frazier said at Vikings training camp.

This isn't good news, per se, for Peterson, but it's not horrible either. Being placed on the PUP list for training camp isn't the same as the regular season -- if Peterson's still on the list when the season starts, he'll have to miss the first six games of the regular season.

For now, however, Peterson's simply unable to participate in physical activities. And since the Vikings are unable to make a roster move to add someone while Peterson misses time, this is essentially a precaution to keep him from begging his way onto the field. (Or simply just going on the field and working out.)

It's a smart move but, as Fowler points out, once they remove Peterson from the list, he's off, as the Vikings can't put Peterson back on. Which means there's a reasonable chance that fans won't get a chance to check out Peterson's status at training camp.

On the bright side, they'll get to see plenty of Toby Gerhart, which isn't nearly as ominous as it sounds.
