Dolphins QB Matt Moore calls depth chart 'frustrating' but he's not 'concerned'

On Monday, the Dolphins' first official depth chart of 2012 listed David Garrard first ahead of veteran Matt Moore and rookie Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill, taken eighth overall in April, called it "a starting point," the implication being that there's still a month to change the coach Joe Philbin's mind.

On Tuesday, Moore, who played well in 12 starts last season, admitted that the depth chart situation was "frustrating" before adding “but I'm not overly concerned that it's going to wreck my performance or wreck my play from here on out" (via the Palm Beach Post's Ben Volin).

Last week, Sports Illustrated's Peter King wrote that Garrard would rank ahead of Peyton Manning in terms of training camp performances by quarterbacks he'd seen to date. Apparently, Philbin agrees -- or at least thinks enough of Garrard's effort relative to Moore and Tannehill to make him the Dolphins' No. 1.

While Moore may be frustrated now, he could be out of a job altogether if Tannehill shows he can handle the backup job. Volin reported Friday that the organization has "considered every contingency at quarterback" and that includes cutting one of the veterans and making the rookie the No. 2. Since Garrard appears to be the early favorite, that would make Moore the odd man out.

Still, given how well Moore played last season, any scenario that results in his release seems like a stretch. Then again, whomever ends up under center, they're only a temporary placeholder for Tannehill, who is already familiar with the Dolphins' offense since it was basically the one he played in at Texas A&M under Mike Sherman, now Miami's offensive coordinator.
