Nnamdi Asomugha did not suffer concussion; Reid says it's whiplash

During Tuesday's Eagles practice, standout cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha had a nasty collision with safety Nate Allen, keeping a motionless Asomugha on the turf for minutes and worrying onlookers that he had suffered a concussion -- which would have been his second in nine months.

Reports after practice stated that he had sustained a lip laceration and suffered from a sore neck. On Tuesday morning, Rapid Reporter Kevin Noonan wrote that Asomugha was not suffering from concussion symptoms though he also wasn't participating in Tuesday's walk-through practice.

After the practice, coach Andy Reid said Asomugha had whiplash syndrome and that he never blacked out. Therefore, no concussions.

Allen said that after the collision Asomugha was smiling and talking on the sidelines.

"I saw [Asomugha], but I figured when you're out there, you're just playing fast and things happen; you collide sometimes," Allen said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. "But you've got to go for the ball. You can't dodge each other."

And sure, violent collisions are a part of the sport, even if they involve members of your team. But Asomugha is fortunate not to have suffered a head injury, and he's lucky he could smile about it afterward.
