So far, RG3 is most marketable rookie in NFL history

So what if the Colts took Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick instead of Robert Griffin III? And who cares if Luck got a slightly bigger contract? Probably not Griffin, considering he's made the most endorsement money of any pre-Week 1 NFL rookie player in history.

As ESPN's Darren Rovell reports, Griffin has signed endorsement deals with Castrol Motor Oil, EA Sports, Subway, Gatorade, EvoShield and adidas (apparently, Griffin's deal with the shoe company is the richest since Reggie Bush).

And it makes sense: Griffin is the new face of one of the most storied NFL franchises in one of this country's biggest media markets. He's got personality, and he's got skills. He's got a big smile, and he's got plenty of talent. Why wouldn't you want him endorsing your product?

“Overall, marketers have been extremely impressed with Griffin's poise in satellite interviews (he's great at remembering brand message points) and in commercial shoots,” Rovell writes. “That's why he has earned more than any other rookie in NFL history before throwing his first regular-season pass.”

Meanwhile, Luck, replacing one of the league's most-marketable players in Peyton Manning, isn't quite as visible. He's received some endorsements here and there, but, as Rovell pens, “Luck and his agent, Will Wilson, have made it clear that the former Stanford quarterback is in no rush to cash in.”

It might not matter, though. Like Manning, as long as your successful, the money offers will come.

For Griffin, though, that time is already here, and as we all know, money in the bank today is better than money that might show up someday.
