Hurricane Isaac leaves Superdome with minimal damage, Saints good for opener

Given the venue's previous hurricane experience, it was natural to wonder how the Superdome would handle Hurricane Isaac. However, the home of the Saints has only dealt with minimal damage and appears ready to roll for football season.

Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune spoke to Doug Thorton of SMG, the group that manages the Superdome, and the spokesman said that any damage to the Superdome could "be repaired pretty quickly" and that the venue was good to go for Tulane's game there this weekend.

"Overall, we seemed to fair very well," Thornton said. "Nothing that can't be repaired pretty quickly or that will prevent us from playing the Tulane game this weekend."

Additionally, there was one tree down, some damage to a video advertising board, some sheet metal damage and a little wind damage, but nothing that would be classified as serious.

As you can see, the storm's now moved/moving north of New Orleans.

Thornton, per Duncan, believes the majority of the Superdome's employees would be back at work by Thursday or Friday at the latest.

That's great news for the Saints and the Redskins, who are scheduled to kickoff their seasons on September 9 at 1 p.m. ET. It's even better news for the city of New Orleans, since it's hard for the world not to hold its collective breath whenever a hurricane begins to bear down on the Gulf Coast.
