Report: Mankins played all last season with torn ACL

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer
Logan Mankins reportedly tore his ACL in Week 1 last season. (US PRESSWIRE)

If you ever wondered whether or not Patriots left guard Logan Mankins is tough, here's your answer. He is. Very tough, in fact.

Although he's coming off a 2011 season which, for him, was somewhat mediocre, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that he played the entire year with a torn ACL. Perhaps that explains some things.

We already knew Mankins had surgery after the Super Bowl to repair a torn tendon. But he apparently injured it in the Week 1 Monday night game vs. the Dolphins.

Considering we can't think of anybody who has played an entire season with a torn ACL, that's an incredible accomplishment. And it explains his Pro Football Focus offensive guard ranking of No. 27 last year when he has been a top-rated player for his entire career.

Assuming Mankins doesn't tear his ACL in his first game this year, expect him to return to the form that has made him a perennial Pro Bowler.
