WR Brandon Lloyd already paying dividends for Patriots

After one forgettable season, the Patriots parted ways with Chad Johnson. In the ongoing search for a deep threat, the team signed free-agent Brandon Lloyd, who had played for New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels when both were in Denver and later St. Louis.

One game into the 2012 regular season, Lloyd is already a third of the way to Johnson's 2011 reception total and a quarter of the way to his yardage total. Tom Brady found Lloyd five times for a team-leading 69 yards in the Pats' 34-13 win over the Titans. By comparison, Johnson managed only 15 catches for 276 yards and a single touchdown over the course of the entire '11 season.

Lloyd has previously had success in McDaniels' offense. In 2010 playing for the Broncos, Lloyd had 77 receptions for 1,448 yards and 11 touchdowns (fine print: that was with Kyle Orton throwing to him). And after Denver shipped him to St. Louis a month into last season, he registered 51 catches for 683 yards and five touchdowns.

Johnson, meanwhile, is still looking for another chance to play in the NFL.
