Jets' Bart Scott sick of being treated like a '[bleeping] joke,' declares 'media mutiny'

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer
Bart Scott is firing up a 'media mutiny.' OK then. (AP)

The Jets got the last laugh on Sunday, piling up 48 points en route to a blowout of the Bills. After all, this team wasn't supposed to score any points, right?

That's what the press (yours truly included) said anyway. And that makes Bart Scott mad. Mad enough to declare a "media mutiny."

"I've got a media mutiny," Scott told Jim Corbett of USA Today when Corbett approached his locker after the game.

Asked if he meant "boycott," Scott told Corbett that, yes, he meant boycott and no he wasn't interested in talking. Then Scott proceeded to talk anyway.

2012 NFL Week 1 Recap

"You guys treat us like we're a [bleeping] joke," Scott said. "You all want us to feed your papers, but then you all talk [bleep] about us. So why would I want to give you all quotes to sell papers with if you all treat us like [bleep]? That doesn't make sense."

Apparently, Scott isn't yet self-aware. What actually doesn't make sense is Scott providing an unbelievably quotable quote about NOT WANTING TO BE QUOTED.

"You all talk stuff about us, and then when we win you flip the story," Scott said. "You all win either way."

That's kind of what sports are. Is everyone just supposed to trust that the Jets, who scored a single touchdown in the preseason and started a less-than-elite group of skill position players, would score a ton of points ... just because Rex Ryan promised everything would be fine? Even guys on the defense were talking about the dearth of talent on the offensive end.

Besides, it's early. For now, the Jets are free to gloat as much as they want. They've earned that right. And if they keep tossing up 48 a game and winning handily, they can spend the entire season smack-talking the media.

Then they really will have flipped the story. And maybe Scott will end his mutiny.
