Report: Seahawks WR Golden Tate fined for blind-side block

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

When Seahawks receiver Golden Tate was asked earlier this week if he was worried about the league fining him for the nasty blind-side block on Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee that you see above, he said he thought he was in the clear.

Turns out, not so much.

According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Tate, in fact, has been fined by the league for the illegal hit, and it would be for a minimum of $21,000

On Monday, Tate told 950 KJR in Seattle (via Yahoo's Shutdown Corner blog), “I'm praying that I don't hear from [the league office]. I reviewed that play many, many times. I never have intentions on injuring a player, just kind of caught up in the moment. It was a big block that gave us some momentum and helped us out, but no, I haven't heard anything from the league. If I do, I'm sure everyone will find out quickly, but hopefully, I don't …

Tate also said he didn't think he was leading with his helmet and that he purposely aimed lower on Lee's body so he wouldn't go helmet-to-helmet on the hit.

But news of the fine wouldn't surprise Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who said, “We saw the same thing you saw. That's certainly something we know or expect penalties and fines about."
