Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey in stable condition

Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey in stable condition

Minutes after Steelers safety Ryan Mundy cracked Darrius Heyward-Bey in the end zone, the Raiders receiver was still down in the end zone and seemingly motionless while medical personnel attended to him.

Finally, when the medics loaded him onto a stretcher and placed him in a cart, he gave the thumbs-up to the crowd to let fans know he could move. And late Sunday night, the Raiders got more good news when the team announced Heyward-Bey was in stable condition.

Heyward-Bey, though, will remain in the hospital overnight for observation.

Even without Heyward-Bey, who caught two passes for 14 yards, the Raiders managed to upend the Steelers for their first win of the season. But the hit by Mundy was nasty, because Heyward-Bey was defenseless and because it appeared that Mundy used his helmet to smash Heyward-Bey in the chin in a play that, somehow, wasn't penalized by the replacement officials.

According to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora, the Raiders are "cautiously optimistic" that Heyward-Bey will be OK.
