Redskins release K Billy Cundiff, sign Kai Forbath

After missing three of four kicks in Week 4, seemingly the only thing that saved Redskins kicker Billy Cundiff's job was the fact he successfully nailed the 41-yard game-winner to allow Washington to escape with a victory over the Buccaneers.

But after blowing a 31-yarder in Week 5, the Redskins have had enough of Cundiff. He was released Tuesday, the team announced, and Kai Forsah was signed to replace him.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported Monday that the Redskins were working out three kickers.

La Canfora noted the other two to try out on Monday were Olindo Mare and Josh Brown. But the Redskins are going ahead with Forbath, who was undrafted coming out of UCLA but signed by the Cowboys and placed on their reserved list last year. He has also spent time with the Buccaneers.

Meanwhile, this is the second time that Cundiff -- who's 7-for-12 on field goal attempts this season -- will have been cut this season (he also lost out to Justin Tucker in the preseason for the right to kick for the Ravens).

“I'm disappointed, especially when it's a chip shot in there,” coach Mike Shanahan said Sunday. “What was it, the 13-yard line? Something in that range. That's always disappointing when you have a chance to get a little momentum going, especially at that time of the game.”
