Bill Belichick: Wes Welker 'has a good sense of humor'

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

With Patriots receiver Wes Welker jokingly telling an interviewer this week that it was nice to have a 13-catch day to stick in Bill Belichick's face, we anxiously awaited Belichick's response.

Would he release Welker out of spite? Would he cut out the receiver's tongue so Welker could make no more jokes? Would he punish Welker by making him run laps or stadium steps or make him sit through a Belichick press conference?

Nope. None of the above.

Instead, Belichick played it cool (and, frankly, boring).

Asked on WEEI in Boston (via sportsradiointerviews.com) what he thought about Welker's jab, Belichick said, “Well, you know I think Wes played really well [Sunday] and happy things turned out the way they did. Any conversations I have with Wes are between me and Wes.”

Then, the host asked if Belichick thought Welker had a career as a comedian.

Said Belichick: “He has a good sense of humor.”

Now that this is settled, it's time to get back to debating with Welker on something more important: whether Tom Brady is the toughest metrosexual out there.
