|Peterson: 'Don't slap me in the face.' Hall: 'I didn't.' (US Presswire)|
Following Sunday's loss to the Redskins at FedEx Field. Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson said Washington cornerback DeAngelo Hall gave him the business after a play midway through the first quarter.
“He slapped me in the face after making a good tackle,” Peterson said via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune (by way of PFT). “And I was just telling him, ‘Hey, don't do me like that, brother.' I looked him in the eyes, and he knew I meant business."
Not necessarily an outrageous claim. Hall has been known to mix it up. And this is football, after all -- hands, fists, elbows, knees and feet have all been known to find their way to unsuspecting opponents.
A day later, Hall was asked about Peterson's accusation.
“I have no idea what he's talking about,” he said via the Washington Post's Mark Maske. “You guys can watch the film. You've watched the film. Once you heard it, you were probably like, ‘Huh? What's he talking about?' I think you all know me. So if anything would happen involving me, I think all you guys would have been jumping on that story right after the game. So for it to be brought up a day later and talking about I slapped him in the face, that's just asinine.”
Well, we took Hall's advice and watched the film.
The incident in question happened with 4:52 to go in the first quarter, the ball at the Redskins 36-yard line and the Vikings facing a second-and 11. Peterson ran to the right for a short gain, and Hall made a solid tackle. As the players were going to the ground, Hall's helmet came off and his left arm appears to graze Peterson's facemask.
Whether that constitutes a "slap in the face" is another issue, but both players got up jawing at one another. That's presumably when Peterson encouraged Hall not to "do me like that, brother."
Either way, this sounds like a job for Judge Sapp.
