The chickens, as they say, are coming home to roost. Unless, of course, Cowboys owner and general manger Jerry Jones makes good on his summertime promise to assembled fans that "Y'all should come to that (Cowboys) stadium and watch us beat the Giants' ass."
Yes, we know. Jones was addressing Dallas Cowboys supporters prior to the start of training camp. There's nothing scandalous here, just an owner trying to drum up support for the hometown team (holding camp in California). The problem: There's no such thing as local news. So once the word got out, the Giants' were asked to respond.
Justin Tuck offered up a "talk is cheap, play the game," while former Cowboys tight end Marcellus Bennett was slightly more forthcoming.
“I just want to kick those guys' asses," he told the New York Post at the time. "That's what it's all about. We're cool but we ain't that cool. I've kind of got some ill feelings toward them overall. But it's a game. Every game is the same where I kind of hate everybody, honestly, in the NFL."
Now 10 weeks later, the fateful day is almost upon us. The Cowboys beat the Giants in Week 1 and New York heads to the Jerry Dome for the rematch on Sunday. In a shocking development, Jones' remarks will be a part of the pregame storyline.
"We take pride in the billboard postings and different things, which motivates our team," running back Ahmad Bradshaw said via the Newark Star-Ledger. "We just use it all for motivation for our team."
And then Bradshaw slapped Victor Cruz in the head.
OK, that didn't happen (this time), but Bradshaw is looking forward to playing in the Jones Mahal.
"Definitely, no question," he said. "We have fun in Dallas stadium."
Bradshaw's right -- the Cowboys are 3-0 in the new Cowboys Stadium. Or as linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka put it before the season, "I mean, the Giants have been whooping (Jones') ass for a long time."
