Christian Okoye watches himself dominate in Tecmo Bowl

For men and women of a certain age, there was nothing quite like firing up the old Nintendo, blowing the dust out of the Tecmo Bowl cartridge and then selecting Christian Okoye for your team in order to wreak havoc on whichever of your friends was unlucky enough to be playing you that day.

Okoye -- who had a pretty decent career of his own in the real world, earning two Pro Bowl honors and leading the league with 1,480 rushing yards in 1989 -- recently allowed NFL.com cameras to film him as he witnessed on YouTube the kind of damage he could do in that classic video game (the blending of old-school video games and new-school computer technology on the NFL's website is just too meta to fully contemplate).

Okoye's reaction to his Nintendo skills: amusement about what a tough SOB he was in that game. But also, the fact people still worship his Tecmo Bowl abilities makes him smile.

“People talk about it all the time,” Okoye said. “I said, ‘Let me see what's going on here.' … Just knowing my name is on the game, it makes you feel good. It makes you feel that you did something for people to remember you.”

Yes, the people who used you back in those Nintendo-tastic days certainly remember you, Nigerian Nightmare.
