Jets S LaRon Landry says Dolphins RB Reggie Bush 'will remember' hit that injured his knee

By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com
LaRon Landry on Reggie Bush: 'Every time he sees me, he will remember that hit.' (US Presswire)

You'd think at some point the Jets would quit talking. We know they're obligated by the league to speak to the media, and that's fine, but it is possible to answer questions without really saying anything. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady do it all the time. So do Peyton and Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Mike McCarthy and Mike Tomlin.

(Hmm. These names all have something in common.)

We mention all this because on the same day that Jets coach Rex Rex called on Dolphins running back Reggie Bush to apologize for his "What comes around goes around" comments regarding Darrelle Revis, Jets safety LaRon Landry offered up his own thoughts on football etiquette.

During the Week 3 New York-Miami get-together, Bush suffered a knee injury late in the first half after taking a hit from defensive lineman Sione Po'uha, linebacker Bart Scott and Landry. At the time, Bush had 61 rushing yards on 10 carries but didn't return in the second half.

"He will remember that hit,” Landry said Wednesday, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta. "Every time he sees me, he will remember that hit ... if I'm in the box or coming downhill. ...

"If I get penalized, I'm not going to stop hitting or head-hunting,” Landry continued. “I'm not going to stop the way I play.”

This is where we point out that, as Mehta noted, Landry's tackle on Bush was perfectly legal. He was neither flagged nor fined. And hitting someone in the knee isn't typically referred to as "head-hunting."

All semantics as far as Landry is concerned.

"Just watch the way (Bush) runs on Sunday,” he said. “I'm not going to over-talk it or make it a story.”

Right. Because you don't want to over-talk something in front of a bunch of guys holding tape recorders. There is good news, though: Landry thinks the Jets will be victorious.

"This game is a must-win," he said. "We can sweep those guys and also go into the bye 4-4. That's what we're striving to do, and that's what we will do."

We look forward to the hastily assembled Rex Ryan press conference announcing that Landry will apologize to Bush for his "head-hunting" remarks.
