Super Bowl Odds, Week 10: NFL is top-heavy this season

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

Surprisingly, there is limited movement in the Super Bowl odds this week. Well, actually there's nothing limited in the right-hand column -- everyone plummets in terms of their chances to win the whole shebang. That shouldn't be shocking, because the teams on that side of things are looking more and more out of it.

The Eagles (90-1) opened up at 15-1 to begin the season. That is insane and yet perfectly reasonable. They're the only team other than the Buccaneers (100-1, moving up) and Dolphins (100-1 and moving down) that I would even consider throwing some cash at on the right side. And you're not feeling good about any of them, but there's an outside shot at getting in the playoffs for all involved.

On the left side of things, we have a group of contenders that essentially ends after the Ravens (20-1). If you polled 1,000 NFL experts -- or even fans -- I'd almost guarantee 1,000 of them pick a Super Bowl winner from those 10 teams.

It's the Texans (5-1), Patriots (11-2), 49ers (6-1), Falcons (15-2, still undervalued I think), Broncos (8-1), Packers (8-1), Bears (9-1), Giants (9-1), Steelers (12-1) and Ravens.

Yes, it's a lot of teams. And, yes, there are only 12 playoff spots. But that tells you a lot about the way that the NFL is right now: extremely top-heavy. Those 10 teams are very good bets to get in the postseason, along with one more NFC wild-card team and one more AFC wild-card team.

In other words, if you're banking on throwing late-season cash at a team to make a random run, it's not going to work out very well for you.
