A scary moment occurred in the second half of the Buccaneers game last Sunday when linebacker Quincy Black fell to the turf motionless while tackling Chargers running back Ryan Mathews. Black remained on the field for 10 minutes as trainers attended to him.

On Monday, Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano said Black would be OK, though he was having complications with his left arm and had suffered a neck injury. On Tuesday, the team put to rest the possibility of Black playing again this season by placing him on injured reserve.

"He looked at us, and he said, ‘Guys, I'm all right,' " defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said after the game, describing what had happened on the field in the aftermath of the injury. "We heard him. So when we heard that, we were like, ‘Let's go.' We said instead of sitting here thinking about it, let's use it as motivation. With one of our family members down, let's stand up for him. That was him saying, ‘Go do your thing.' "

Black started five games this season and played in all nine, recording 32 tackles (three for a loss) and one fumble recovery.
