Cowboys WR Dez Bryant to undergo anger management to avoid court

In July, Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant was arrested on domestic violence charges after he allegedly pushed his mother in the middle of an argument with his half-brother.

According to the police report, Bryant "got upset during a verbal argument and grabbed mother by her shirt and hair and hit her in the face with ball cap.”

Now, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Bryant has entered a conditional dismissal agreement with the Dallas County district attorney's office that will allow him not to face charges in court.

Bryant's attorney, Royce West, said Bryant will have to go for anger management counseling. If he keeps a clean record for the next year, the original charges will be dropped. West said that one reason the agreement between the district attorney and Bryant was made was because Bryant “maintain[ed] his innocence and never had to enter a plea.”

“It did not require a plea to be entered, and we still say he is innocent of any charges,” West said, via the paper. “But to get the issue behind him, we entered into this agreement with the district attorney. The bottom line is if Dez keeps his nose clean, and he has never been in trouble before, and if [he] does counseling that he has already started, it will be dismissed in a year.”

But just because he seems to have gotten around any legal punishment, it's unclear what steps, if any, the NFL will take against Bryant. West believes Bryant doesn't deserve any punishment from Roger Goodell.

“I would be astonished,” West said. “He hasn't pled to anything. He hasn't entered any kind of plea. All he has to do is counseling and stay out of trouble.”
