Report: charges dropped on Raiders LB Rolando McClain; won't serve 180 days

Last May, a judge in Alabama sentenced Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain to 180 days in jail after convicting him of reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, and menacing and discharging a firearm.

But after McClain appealed the convictions, all of the charges have been dropped, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter (via PFT).

McClain had been accused by the alleged victim, Rishard Tapscott, of threatening to kill him and pointing a gun at his head before discharging the firearm next to Tapscott's ear.

After McClain appealed the judge's ruling, the legal process, as it does in Alabama, had to start over in the McClain case. According to Schefter, the charges have been dropped because the alleged victim does not want to proceed.

The NFL hasn't weighed in on the matter, so you have to wonder if a punishment of some kind is still coming from the league office.

As the San Jose Mercury News mentions, McClain hasn't had a great year on the field. He has started seven of nine games at middle linebacker and has compiled 44 total tackles and one sack.

Columnist Tim Kawakami had harsh words for McClain earlier this week.

He plays middle linebacker and is out there for most run downs, but he hasn't made much of an impression once again this season, except in the plays he doesn't make.

And McClain is now regularly getting pulled off the field on pass downs, because he hasn't proven much in the NFL but he has definitely established himself as a liability in the pass game. …

The Raiders are pretty much getting exactly what McClain has been during his entire three-season NFL career: A lot of nothing.
