Report: Broncos RB Willis McGahee to miss 6-8 weeks with torn MCL

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

After Willis McGahee injured his knee early in the second quarter Sunday vs. the Chargers, the Broncos running back reportedly told people that he thought he'd be OK and that the injury wasn't serious.

Sounds like it's a little more serious than he originally thought.

According to ESPN, McGahee tore his MCL and will miss the next six to eight weeks. Fox Sports' Jay Glazer said the reason his recovery will take so long is because McGahee also suffered a fracture in his leg.

McGahee has had a strong season this year, and he rushed for 55 yards on just seven carries Sunday. Now, it seems likely Ronnie Hillman (12 carries, 43 yards on Sunday) would take over that No. 1 running back spot, while Lance Ball -- who gained 35 yards on six carries -- would get some additional work as well.

Either way, don't expect the Broncos to stand pat.

If he's out for only six weeks, McGahee could return by Week 17 vs. the Chiefs.
