NFL Today video: Broncos' defense talks impact of Peyton Manning, Von Miller

Peyton Manning has answered any lingering questions about the four neck surgeries that kept him on the sidelines a year ago. He signed with the Broncos in the spring, and through three months of the NFL season he's a legit MVP candidate. Funny story: Denver has two such players on the roster. In addition to Manning, second-year linebacker Von Miller has been nearly unstoppable this year.

On Sunday, the Broncos' defense spoke with CBS' The NFL Today about Manning and Miller.

Linebacker Wesley Woodyard added: "[Miller] keeps us motivated, he makes sure we have a lot of fun … there's never a dull day with this dude."

Miller, meanwhile, said that "I haven't been aware of too many records [he currently has 13 sacks and four forced fumbles], I'm just trying to take it one day at a time. These guys won't let me get too ahead of myself. In mid-February, we'll start looking around and see what we accomplished."

As for Manning, Woodyard said that with "him signing here, from Day 1, everybody had to pick up their play. That business mentality is something that he brought to the table."

"It's good to have that presence on your team," defensive back Champ Bailey said. "Because everybody feels more accountable now -- nobody's afraid to say when they mess up or pat a teammate on the back. It feels more like a family."

The defense, which has quietly become one of the league's best units under first-year coordinator Jack Del Rio, is about more than X's and O's.

"We all care about each other … we all want to play for each other and celebrate with each other," Woodyard said.

"We got a good group of guys, and that's all you can ask for," Bailey added.

Having Manning and Miller doesn't hurt, either.
