Bucs CB Eric Wright loses appeal; will serve 4-game suspension for PEDs

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

It seems that every week another NFL player is getting suspended for violating the league's rule on performance-enhancing drugs because of the alleged use of Adderall.

On Sunday, it was reported that Seahawks cornerbacks Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman had failed those tests. They plan to appeal their suspensions, and are hoping to have a better outcome than another player who appealed his suspension, but failed.

That player, Buccaneers cornerback Eric Wright was suspended last month for allegedly using Adderall. On Monday, Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano told reporters that Wright's suspension would begin next Sunday.

“I'm disappointed he's going to be suspended for four weeks," Schiano said, via the Tampa Bay Times. "I'm disappointed this has happened inside our organization.”

It's not just going to cost his team when he's absent. It's going to cost him quite a bit as well.

Wright -- who recorded 39 tackles, one interception and seven passes defended in 10 games this season -- is eligible to return in Week 17.

Here's his statement on the matter, via the Times.

"It was announced today by the NFL that I am being suspended for four games. This is a result of taking Adderall at the end of July for health issues I was experiencing. I am extremely disappointed that the suspension was upheld at my appeal.

"My agent and attorneys have only received this decision this afternoon and they will be discussing it with me in the immediate future. I apologize to the Glazer family, general manager Mark Dominik, coach Schiano and the entire Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization, my teammates, our great fans and my family who have stood by me through this entire process. I will continue to prepare myself and look forward to rejoining the team.”
