Jets place rookie WR Stephen Hill on IR

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

Taken with a second-round pick in 2012, Jets receiver Stephen Hill has been a bit of a disappointment in his rookie year, making just 21 catches for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

He's had a propensity for drops -- according to Pro Football Focus, he's had six of them, the most of any receiver who's been on the field for at least 420 plays this season -- and coming out of Georgia Tech, he's looked raw much of the time.

And now his season is over.

The team announced Wednesday evening that Hill, who sprained his LCL in Week 14 vs. the Jaguars, has been placed on the injured reserve list.

The news isn't a surprise, considering the Jets have been eliminated from the postseason and recently signed Braylon Edwards. As of last week, though, Hill considered himself day to day.

"I don't know if I can make it worse or not," Hill told the Newark Star-Ledger. "I haven't asked. Other than that, it's one of those ... I really don't know. They haven't given me a set time or anything."

In a corresponding move, the Jets signed cornerback Donnie Fletcher from the practice squad.
