UPDATE (9:55 left in third quarter): Johnson caught a 14-yard pass from Matthew Stafford that eventually led to a Mikel LeShoure touchdown run and a 21-13 Atlanta lead. 51 yards to go.

2:54 left in the third: Johnson caught a bullet from Matthew Stafford for 26 yards to bring him within 25 yards of Rice.

1:27 left in the third: HELLO MR. MEGATRON. Johnson made a fantastic catch of 21 yards, leaving him just four yards shy of breaking Rice's record.

Calvin Johnson Breaks the Record

Lions wideout Calvin Johnson entered Saturday night's game against the Falcons needing 181 receiving yards to break Jerry Rice's single-season. Actually breaking the record this year appeared to be a formality with Megatron needing just 181 yards over two games.

But the record might be a laugher tonight, with Johnson piling up 117 receiving yards in the first half. He'll need just 65 yards in the second half of Saturday's game to break Rice's record and make his mark on NFL history.

It's going to happen. The question is whether or not Johnson breaks Rice's record with a game to go in the season.

Johnson's monster first half did manage to set a few records anyway though.

Megatron tied Michael Irvin's record for most 100-yard receiving games in a season with 11 after crossing the mark at halftime. Another 100-yard effort in Week 17 will give him a record of his own ... and would also guarantee that he breaks Rice's record as well.

Additionally, Johnson now has eight-straight 100-yard receiving games, an NFL record.

Megatron is having a mega season, and at halftime of Saturday's game, he's just 216 yards away from breaking the unfathomable 2,000 receiving-yards barrier.

He's probably not thrilled that it's happening in a losing effort, but if it's any comfort, it's still fun to watch.
