Carson Palmer suffers rib injury; won't return to game

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

Earlier in the game on Sunday, the Raiders put together a nifty little play where third-string quarterback Terrelle Pryor threw a lateral to quarterback Carson Palmer, who then tossed it back across the field to Pryor, gaining 22 yards on the play.

Now, it appears that Pryor is the Raiders' No. 2 backup, behind Matt Leinart.

After Palmer was speared by Greg Hardy with a helmet to the back after he had rolled to his right to avoid the Panthers' pass rush late in the first quarter -- Hardy was penalized on the play for unnecessary roughness -- Palmer left the game with a rib injury, and Leinart went in.

According to the Raiders, Palmer's injury will keep him out for the rest of the day.

Coming into the game, Leinart had made one appearance and had thrown one incomplete pass on the season.
